GWCoM is actively engaged with the Queensland Department of State Development, Infrastructure and Planning (DSDIP) on development of the Greater Whitsunday Regional Plan.
On 6 May 2026, GWCoM facilitated a meeting with DSDIP and member council representatives to work through the detailed draft scope. The draft scope was then issued to member councils for formal review, with comments consolidated and returned to DSDIP by 20 May 2026.
The Regional Plan scope covers land use, population, infrastructure, and the critical regional enablers of energy, water, communications and freight and transport. GWCoM provided briefings to member council representatives throughout the review period, including a direct briefing to Whitsunday Regional Council at the 14 May 2026 GWCoM board meeting.
The Regional Plan will provide a long-term statutory framework for growth and development across the Mackay, Isaac and Whitsunday local government areas. GWCoM will continue to work with DSDIP and member councils as the plan progresses towards public consultation.
